UMS is the student union for students at Umeå University’s Faculty of Medicine. The union is a student-run organization that works to ensure you have the best possible experience during your studies.

Our Mission

The union acts as a support for all students and works with issues related to both academic life and life outside of university. Our mission is to represent students and ensure they have the opportunity to influence their education and that it maintains a high standard of quality.

As an individual student, it can sometimes feel difficult to make your voice heard. Through the union, students’ opinions about exams, the study environment, equality, or discrimination can be heard and brought forward. By representing students in various decision-making processes and maintaining continuous contact with the university, we ensure that the student perspective is always considered.

The union’s work also extends beyond academic matters. The orientation for new students is one of our areas of responsibility, and before every semester we train mentors and organizers to ensure that the introduction period is safe and inclusive.

UMS also has several student social committees that organize dinners, sports tournaments, and fun events throughout the year.
